Have you been to Vasai-Virar lately?
As the runners at the Vasai-Virar Mayor’s marathon came streaming past the finish line, one man mingled with them in the hold area, cheered them and sought their feedback – the good bits about the marathon, areas for improvement and shortcomings. Clad in a tee and tracks, the tall man proceeded to introduce himself to the marathon veterans, and promised them a much better event next year.
The man was Rajiv Patil, the mayor of Vasai-Virar, who instead of sitting on the stage and basking in the glory of his own event, chose to abandon his cronies and risk conversations with real people to get real feedback.

While they go about creating the necessary infrastructure for this, the residents can hope for an increasingly better lifestyle at a fraction of the cost in Mumbai.
And who knows, if you land a good job in the neighbourhood, you don’t even have to make that killing journey to Mumbai, not even to run a marathon.
